Decorating Dilemma: For the Love of Circles!

Here’s a simple decorating concept that changes everything:  circles!

Definition:  you can start in one place, walk around the house, and return back to where you started without retracing your steps.

See the picture on the left – you start in the foyer, walk  through to the kitchen, left  into the living room, and back to the foyer – that’s a circle!

They are incredibly powerful!  Watch a toddler race around one over and over. Observe at party how well the guests flow through a home with a circle. Continue reading

Eye Candy: “Open Concept” in Pittsburgh

Very popular today is the “open concept” floor plan.  I think it has some pros and cons, but I’ll save those for another post.

Because regardless of how you feel about “open,” you won’t want to miss this dramatic and architecturally fascinating Pittsburgh home, featured recently in the New York Times.

The couple desired, and architect Eric Fisher achieved, privacy in an open and glassy structure by setting the home above, out, and over the factory they own – creating a highly unique structure with breathtaking views.

Don’t miss the photos – would love to hear what you think!

If you’re considering buying in DC, stay up on the latest development.

Check out these exciting plans:

Hill East:  DC Mud reports new apartments are under construction in Hill East near RFK.

Cathedral Heights:  Construction on the new Cathedral Commons will begin next spring, also according to DC Mud.

Brookland: A new mixed-use village for Brookland around a “college main street” at Catholic University is underway!  I think this is a huge deal for the city.  I’m surprised it doesn’t get more attention.  Thanks to DC Mud for following the progress.
