The Power of a Front Door: November 2013

November 2014Tip of the month: Brown is a great alternative to black!

If you like a classic look, but are bored with black, consider brown! It’s especially pretty with red brick.

Benjamin Moore’s Exterior Ready mix colors are usually a safe bet. So you might start with Tudor Brown, or Charleston Brown if you like something lighter.

If I can help with your front door, let me know!  jennifer.macomber@gmail.com / 202-905-5369.

Introducing the Color Library!

“What will it look like on the wall?”  – probably the most common and vexing question when selecting paint colors…

So I’m introducing the “Color Library”!

I will from time to time do a post featuring a color. I will include pictures I have of rooms in that color.  Colors will vary room to room, depending on light, but it’s better than nothing.

You can help!  If you’ve painted a room a color you really like, take a quick picture and email me it to me at jennifer.macomber@gmail.com.  I’ll post it.

Or if I’ve done a post in the past and you have a room that color, send the picture and I’ll add it to that post.

Tell your friends to do the same.  The more pictures we get, the better resource the Color Library will become!

Color Consult: Tried and True Neutrals

Need a “sure thing” paint color?  A neutral that goes with everything?  But nothing too bland, something with a little depth?

Here are 3 of my favorites (all Benjamin Moore):

Grant Beige (HC-83):  A simple but strong khaki color – more brown than gray (pictured left).

Edgecomb Gray (HC-173):  A perfect taupe – provides a backdrop without fading to the background.

Revere Pewter (HC-172):  Can’t decide between a tan or gray – this is the perfect blend.

These colors are also great when you’re trying to sell your house.   They look good in pictures and even better in person!

Color Consult: Fun Fall Paint Colors

This morning I tweeted a story on Houzz about the comeback of the den.   The warmth and coziness of the pictures made me think about some of my favorite fall paint colors:

Meditation (Benjamin Moore AF-395): a deep olive-gray

Shelburne Buff (Benjamin Moore HC-28): a soft gold without too much yellow

Audubon Russet (Benjamin Moore HC-51): a perfect in-between of red and orange

Shenandoah Taupe (Benjamin Moore AC-36): a deep but not too dark brown (pictured)

Love these deep rich colors in small rooms like dens, dining rooms, or even foyers and hallways.  Maybe spruce up a room for the holidays?
