Renovation Resource: Demonstrating Beadboard

Beadboard is a beautiful and relatively cost effective way to add character and charm to your home. It is extremely versatile and can help with durability, especially if you have kids or pets.

It works well in hallways, bathrooms, pantries, kitchens, dining rooms, foyers, and children’s rooms. It can go on cabinets, behind shelves and cubicles, and also makes a great backsplash. It can even go on ceilings, especially porch ceilings.

You can paint it any color – from whites and neutrals to blacks, blues, reds, and grays.

It can go on whole walls or part way up walls. Sometimes it’s 3 or 4 feet high; sometimes 5 or 6 feet high. Beadboard that goes part way up a wall looks great with a thick molding or “cap” to finish it at the top.

It also looks great paired with wallpaper!

How’s the Market? Washington DC September 2014

032Buyer and seller activity both improved this September over last. The city also saw median prices increase and days on market drop slightly this September compared to September last year. Full Recap. [Source: Real Estate Business Intelligence]

My take: the market appears much more balanced than it has in recent years. Inventory is still somewhat low relative to years past, but picking up pace to be more in line with buyer demand. Potential buyers should consider acting now. Low interest rates and improved inventory make it a great time to buy!
