Nothing like a little eye candy to get the week going!

Check out this beautiful renovated townhouse in Lincoln Park Chicago featured on Houzz.

Color Library: Stonington Gray

Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray (HC-170) is a classic gray.  It’s strong but muted enough to be a perfect background.  It leans more blue than brown.

Benjamin Moore offers some great coordinating colors – for nearby rooms or accessories.  I really like the idea of pairing it with a taupe like stampede (979).

The walls (left) and in the slide show below are painted Stonington Gray.

If you have a room painted Stonington Gray or another color you love, snap a picture and email it to jennifer.  You’ll help the library grow!

Coming Soon: The Pizza Edition!

The Prince of Petworth (PoP)  reports the possibility of 3 new pizza restaurants coming to DC neighborhoods:

Brookland (2711 12th St NE):  According to the PoP, Menomale will bring  pizza and craft beer to Brookland as early as mid-February.

Bloomingdale: (467  Florida Ave NW):  Not many details yet, but sounds like a possible new pizza cafe for the Bloomingdale neighborhood.

Logan Circle / U Street: (1832 14th St NW):  The plans sound exciting with a casual pizza concept restaurant on the top two floors, including a possible balcony and rooftop space.

Benjamin Moore offers some good coordinating colors – good for nearby rooms or accessories.

The walls in the room (left) and in the slide show below are Ivory White.

Buying a Fixer-Upper: 6 Considerations

Buying a fixer-upper can be very exciting and very overwhelming!  Here are a few considerations to keep in mind as you look for your new home…

1) Focus on what can’t change easily:  four big ones – light, location, view, and ceiling height.

2)  Look for obstructions:  large trees or wires may block a potential addition or disrupt deck and patio plans.

3) Consider access: major renovations are more efficient if crews can get to the back of the property easily (i.e. alley access or long driveway).

Color Library: Edgecomb Gray

Check out Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray (HC-173).  This color strikes a perfect chord between gray and tan and goes with everything.

Benjamin Moore recommends specific coordinating colors – helpful for nearby rooms or selecting furnishings.

The photo (left) shows a room painted Edgecomb Gray.  The slide show below has more examples.

If you have an Edgecomb Gray room or another color you love, snap a photo and email it to  I’ll add it to the library!

Getting Organized in 2012!

Is getting organized one of your 2012 resolutions?  If so, why not start at home?   Even clearing out a single drawer or shelf can make life a little easier.

Some tricks:

1) Throw away anything you have not used in the past year, unless it has sentimental value.

2) Identify the items you use most and make them easiest to access.

3) Leave some space on shelves.  Some openness is calming.

4) Figure out what types and sizes of containers might help and then go buy them.  Don’t buy the containers first and try to make them work.

5) If you’re up for a major reorganization, the Container Store is currently having their annual Elfa sale – a great and flexible closet system.

If you need motivation, check out these before and after pictures of my sister Mandy’s laundry closet! Continue reading
